Well, when I do wake up and have a lot of time on my hands, a leisurely breakfast and some fun conversation is the most relaxing thing to do. Now, time being a luxury and me waking up in time for breakfast with family being a rarity, most days breakfast is neither leisurely nor is it relaxing. It generally is dependent on the amount of time in hand and the number of meetings scheduled in the morning! 🙁
However, when I do get the time, I absolutely love taking my time and having a slow paced and relaxed breakfast with snatches of conversation and catching up on comics in the paper! 🙂
Here are some of my absolute favorite meals, to begin my day with:
One can’t really go wrong with a bowl of cornflakes, cold milk and fruit. Add in strawberries (when in season), bananas and apples and you have a crunchy start to your day!
I love Kellogg’s, btw!
On most days, an omelette with crunchy toast, topped with ketchup is easy to make. However, on days when I do have the time, I take the time out for spanish omlettes with mushroom sauce and when possible, bacon. YUM!
Do try a spanish omelette if you have the time. Absolutely yum!
I absolutely adore mom’s vegetable upma. Throw in some onions, some tomato and some peas and the smell wafting from the kitchen is good enough to get me out of bed! (Trust me, it is very difficult to get me out of bed! 😀 )
Upma is simple to make and an Indian classic!
Toast with Fruit Juice:
There are days (many, I must add) when time is short and a hurried breakfast means a couple of slices of toast with juice. I try having fresh fruit juice when I can, it was specifically mentioned by my dietitian and hence mosambi and orange are front runners along with pomegranate. But when I am cheating, I love guava or litchi juice in the morning! 🙂
Muesli with Cold Apple Juice:
I like crunchy muesli, but I think milk kind of makes it very soggy and not so tasty! 😛 I prefer my muesli with cold and crisp apple juice. It is always happy nom time with this recipe! 🙂
My favorite breakfast, and my mom’s home made french toasts with a glass of fresh coconut water (nariyal paani) has me in a very very happy place! 🙂 *still grinning from ear to ear*
Come summers and most houses are stocked with mangoes! And this delicious fruit can be eaten at any time of the day! Some mornings however, a glass of cold mango milkshake with lots of fresh mango is the only thing that can have you looking forward to the day.
If you haven’t tried it for breakfast, you should!
Piping hot idli with spicy coconut chutney and tangy sambhar. Add crispy dosas. And crunchy medu vadas! Set.
All ready to go to Madras Cafe for breakfast now? Good! 🙂
The staple Maharashtrian breakfast. Spicy and full of flavor, poha is a must have breakfast in our household, at least once a week! 🙂
The Special Breakfast:
If I did have all the time in the world, to have a lavish breakfast, I will probably indulge in the following:
Hot buttered croissants
Delicately spiced apple muffin
Fresh Watermelon Juice
I am an avid believer in ‘Eat Breakfast Like a King!’ And if I did have this breakfast, trust me; I would go right back to sleep! Hehehe!
Well, what are your favorite breakfast choices? Do let us know! 🙂
Hope you guys had fun reading and have a kickass week ahead! Happy nom!
