My Favorite Chefs

Food for me did not happen overnight. I did not wake up one day knowing that I will want to eat beautiful food and create some where possible. There are many people who are responsible for this transformation, my favorite chefs. My inspirations. πŸ™‚

Mom: (Ofcourse! )

Well, she is the person responsible for cooking some of the best food I have ever tasted! Deviled eggs, chicken-do-pyaza, spring rolls, aam panna, a whole horde of bengali sweets ( rasgullas, mishti doi, sandesh!), elish macher jhol (spicy catfish in a mustard based gravy), chingri malai curry (prawn malai curry! :D)… Well, trust me when I say that the list is never ending! In between these ones mentioned, there is the numerous koftas, dals, curries and snacks! Killer french toasts!

But more often than not, she had the patience to feed the picky eater, convince the one who refused to touch paneer, (omagawd! I know,Β I know) and all the countless efforts in the kitchen to feed the darling something new! πŸ™‚

She will forever be the most brilliant and most lovely chef in my list. And she rules at #1! ( Go Ma!!!)

Nigella Lawson: (That food goddess)

Well, to describe her in one word, foodporn! πŸ˜€

There is no way some one looks that bloody gorgeous when she is stuffing her face with food each night! πŸ˜€ And speaking of the food, have you seen her simple one bake trays? Or desserts? Or even her stocked pantry for that matter?! πŸ˜€

She food is simple and cooked from the heart. And this gorgeous woman, (who I would love to meet one day) is my first and formost inspiration to cook and indulge in good food. After mom, ofcourse!

Jamie Oliver: (The chef who makes you drool)

Have you seen this cute lad? Well, he can cook for me anytime! πŸ˜€

His 15 minute meals are truly inspirational. Imagine coming back home after a long day at work, and quickly whipping up a sensational meal in 15 minutes?! Truly heaven, no?

Plus, I love his organic garden and the stress he puts on using fresh produce! He grows his own herbs, and his vegetables. ( A beautifully ripened tomato plant would give me sufficient inspiration to grow my own garden. Along with Jamie in there, ofcourse! πŸ˜‰ )

His messy hair, rustic cooking, and simple and homely food gets him at #3!

Anthony Bourdain: (Sing with me, New York New York)

Fondly called as Tony, he stays in New York. He stays in the land of the most versatile cuisines and foods.

Think foot haven. The land of pizzas, rich and melting milk shakes, food trucks, street food, secret restaurants, cheesy sandwiches, and vodka shots! The man lives there. Β And he travels all around the globe. And he writes about food. πŸ˜€ *grin*

The hospitality, the travel and the food. Well, that’s how I sum up Anthony Bourdain! He is on my inspiration list at #4!

However, the most inspiring thing for me, is food itself. Each culture uses the same ingredients and yet the outcomes are so different. Sweet. Spicy. Tangy. Sour. The combinations are infinite. The possibilities are enormous. And hence, above and beyond all of that, one of the biggest inspirations for me, is food itself. πŸ™‚

Butter Chicken?

This picture makes me smile all the time, because it gets as close to the truth as possible. And then, some. πŸ™‚

I was asked, what do you want to be when you grow up? As a kid I answered that I wanted to be a good person. It was only recently that I realized that all I want to do, is eat good food. And make good food, since; for me, and I quote George Bernard Shaw - "There is no love sincerer, than the love of food."
