The rains are here. Well, a lot of people are sighing about the romance in the air, the prettiness of the weather and the general feeling of laziness which seems to envelope everyone and absolute bring down efficiency in the work-space. I, on the other hand have a strong dislike for the rains. Mind you, it is only because I have to get out of bed, when I would much rather sleep in and because, well, I hate muggy, cold clothes. Else, even I love the rains. 🙂
Speaking of rains, I also have this random thing, where I associate food with seasons. And one of the major food I associate with this season, and there is absolutely no reason or rhyme to it, is cupcakes. Those delicious, soft creamy, buttery things which instantly brighten any grey day. (And add about 600 kcals per serving!) But, do most of us care? 🙂
My first interaction with a cupcake was this beautiful melt in my mouth blueberry cupcake with vanilla frosting and star sprinkles. Shame I don’t have a picture of that one, or remember the name of the place, but it was beautiful. And it reinforced by belief in food. And since that day, even though I don’t too many of these (the 600 kcal chant happens very often when I think of them), I do indulge in cupcakes every once in a while.
One of my favorites was the red velvet cupcake with strawberry frosting from Mad Over Donuts! Shame they discontinued that one. Another one I really like are vanilla ones with orange/citrus frosting. Not too many people make those. Absolute shame! :'(
Another fond memory of cupcakes that I recall is that of me gifting one to a really close friend. I remember buying him a chocolate oreo cupcake and his face absolutely lighting up like Christmas when he opened the box. Needlessly to say, we had a really sweet start to the evening, he wolfed down the cupcake, with only one occasion where he offered me a bite and a lot of laughter which followed. 🙂
Ofcourse, gifting cupcakes to your sister has another element of fun, especially when she gives you the tightest hug after seeing the contents of the box. I remember buying her cupcakes from ‘The Rolling Pin’ in R-City, red velvet ones if I remember correctly. And she was so absolutely happy that evening, given that she had been studying all day and that was just the perfect excuse she needed to take a break. (And decidedly, share it with me, albeit very unwillingly!)
So, here is to cupcakes. And more. \m/
